Desuperheater

It is a system of producing saturated steam from hot steam. In industry, saturated steam is frequently needed. The best examples of this are the chemical industry, textile, wood and paper industry.

In conventional pressure reduction and conditioning stations, the steam passing first through the pressure reducer then enters the desuperheater.

Simultaneously with this product developed by BAELZ, it reduces steam pressure and injects water directly into the superheated steam for cooling. Rapid adaptation to load fluctuations related to the process is provided.

BAELZ Desuperheater has the following advantages over standard saturated steam produc
ers:

  • It creates the saturated steam without any overheating.
  • Increases production quality by providing precision of pressure optimization and temperature control within the load range of 2%-100% under the condition.
  • Very good spraying action of the water injected (demineralized water!)
  • It provides pressure drop and temperature conditioning with a single device.
  • There is no risk of carrying water.
  • It eliminates water hammer.

Maximum load

The primary steam passes in the nozzle with a velocity of 665 m/s. Then it expands in the diffuser leading to a velocity of approx. 300 m/s for the mixing of steam with the water droplets.

The cooling water is pulverized in the nozzle with drops of a diameter of 0.75 mm. The steam reduces these drops to 0.04 mm. This means a drop of 0.75 mm is pulverized into 6.592 droplets of 0.04 mm. By that the exchanging surface for evaporation is increased by a factor of 19.

Minimum load

The procedure is the similar. The steam passes with a velocity of 665 m/s through the nearly closed nozzle. For this load, the nozzle pulverizes the water into drops of 1.3 mm and the steam makes 206 droplets of 0.22 mm out of the droplets of 1.3 mm, thus increasing an exchanging surface which grants a good evaporation also for such  a low load.
